Grean Northern Ry. Glacier Park bronze plaque from carving by John L. Clarke
Unique plaque promoting Glacier National Park via the Great Northern Railway, cast in bronze from wood carving by John L. 3 of 20 made. “See America First” was a slogan promoted by the Great Northern Railway in the early years of the last century, promoting Glacier Park as the Great Northern was the only railroad reaching the area. Also the idea that the USA was at least as worth seeing as Europe. John L Clarke was a Blackfoot Indian who was deaf and mute, yet became a renowned woodcarver with a studio at the park. About the plaque, see the description and details in photo. Note the Great Northern Railway emblem is in similar style to the plaque.
