WWII Trench Art Skull & Crossbones -Hand Carved German Natzi Wood Sculpture
This extraordinary German wooden trench art piece was hand carved with a pocketknife by a German soldier while in a bunker for three months during WWII. It was carved from the butt of a broken rifle and the base was made from the cover of an ammo box. It features the skull and crossbones called the totenkopf, (dead head), by the German army. I acquired over forty years ago directly from the man who made it, who migrated to the U. Overall it measures about 5” wide x 5″ deep x 3″ tall. Please see all pictures. Part of the left jawbone is missing and that’s the way it was when I got it. I hope someone else will enjoy the craftsmanship as much as I have over the years. Thanks & Good Luck!
