The subject is the Madonna and child seated on a bench while sharing a platter of grapes. The attention to detail is superb with expressive features, curly hair on the infant, exquisitely draped fabrics, and distinct fingers and toes. The colors, too, are sensational. Beautiful blue robes with a crimson blouse and white head scarf, trimmed in lustrous gold. And of course those purple grapes. It is signed on the back of the bench with a carved M. I asked the Bing chat bot about the imagery of grapes and the Madonna, its conclusion follows. When a Madonna statue holds grapes, it signifies her role as the mother of Christ, the true vine, and the source of the Eucharist, the blood of the new covenant. It shows age appropriate wear and tear including scuffs, scratches, and dings. There is minor bumping to a few corners and high points. The surface has an aged patina and there is dust accumulation in the recesses. The paint is all original. The colors look great and the gold has good shine. The paint and gold highlights have minor wear and rubbing. There is a notable ding on a fold of the blue robe under her left knee (photo 14). It presents well and is suitable for display.
