This truly intriguing piece comes with a sense of mystery. How old is it and where did it come from? Found many steps from its likely original source, as it wasn’t made in the United States, we can only speculate, but one thing is for certain, it is very old. The discoloration and oxidization of the wood signals its age. It can be assumed that it all started out the color on the bottom, and over time it matured in condition to what it is today. It has some minor flaws that is normal for its age (see pictures). Zoom in on the close-up image of the rower’s face to see the character on it, and you can get a sense of its history. There are two theories on how old this piece is. It’s fair to say that the age on the piece places it back at least that far. The second theory is that this piece is more ancient than that, and that it was created during the actual Inca Empire itself. It has a very similar look to museum pieces, giving off similar sentiments of age. Which of the two theories are correct, or possibly another one, is up to you, barring carbon dating the piece. The above is speculation made by research and educated assumptions.
