Depicting a fierce dragon in flight above a warrior figure. The dragon features extraordinary craftsmanship – deeply carved scales, textured wings, and hand-painted details. The warrior has a finely carved bone head with expressive features and traditional robes richly tinted in reddish tones. Mounted on a large, carved wooden base with flame-like edges and hammered texture. A striking, one-of-a-kind piece of Oriental art that displays incredible skill and attention to detail. Likely carved in Bali or the Philippines in the mid-20th century, inspired by traditional Chinese dragon mythology. 35 cm (14 in). 30 × 20 cm (12 × 8 in). 2-3 kg packed (estimated). Materials Hardwood, bone (head of figure), glass eyes, hand-applied stain and lacquer finish. Condition Good vintage condition with minor flaws consistent with age. The warrior figure is detached from the base (can be re-mounted easily). One hand of the warrior is missing. The dragon has one missing tooth and a small tip of wood broken on the upper detail (see photos). Otherwise complete and beautifully preserved with rich patina and excellent structural integrity. Hand-carved from a single block of hardwood. Stunning contrast between the dragon’s dark finish and the lighter bone head of the figure. Detailed base with flame-like relief carving all around. Glass eyes give the dragon a lifelike, expressive look. Collector’s quality craftsmanship – every scale and fold of clothing individually carved. Makes an exceptional statement piece for display, collection, or gift.
