Very Rare – Artist Signed Initials right on the base of the sculpture! The metal plaque on the base reads FRANK CORONADO Rep Dom. This is a vintage 1992 mahogany wooden sculpture, authentically original by artist Frank Coronado. The abstract, modernist piece stands approximately 14 inches tall and depicts a woman holding a baby. Frank Coronado (born 1955) is a well-known Dominican sculptor and woodcarver. His artwork frequently blends Caribbean folk art traditions with mid-century modernism and Cubist elements heavily influenced by artists like Pablo Picasso. The Material: Coronado’s pieces from this collection are hand-carved out of native Dominican Caoba (mahogany), a rich, dense wood prized for its deep color and durability. The artist’s authentic monogram carved directly into the wood. The Letters: The carving forms the stylized initials “FC” for Frank Coronado. The Design: The “F” and “C” are cleverly combined into a single, cohesive emblem that mirrors the modernist, flowing angles of the sculpture itself. In excellent condition with normal wear.
