This cardinal was carved with a chainsaw and other power tools from a scotch pine log. It stands roughly 14 inches tall and is roughly 8 inches wide. It has been sealed with spar urethane and can be kept indoors or outdoors. I do not recommend keeping this carving in direct sunlight as the excessive heat and harsh uv lights are very hard on wood carvings. A cool shaded location is the best place to keep a wood carving. As you can see in the photo, the carving does have many small cracks and other natural imperfections in it. Cracking is a normal and unavoidable occurrence in wood carvings and should not be viewed as a defect. They only add character and authenticity to the piece. A bit more cracking over time as the carving ages is possible.
