The bald head, meditative posture, and monastic clothing identify this Hand Carved figure as Bodhidharma. The Indian monk credited with founding the Chan (or Zen) tradition of East Asian Buddhism. The measurements of the statue are 10″ in height, 5″ wide, and 3 deep. The material is a light wood; therefore the sculpture only weighs 1 pound, 3 ounces. The condition of the Vintage Statue is consistent with its age with definite signs of overall wear. Please review the hi-res photos which accurately captures the beauty and state of the art work listed. The unsigned artisan originally painted the wood of the statue because there are still some faint remnants of. White paint on the hands and face, and the color red on the belt and chest garment. We believe the square hole in the back indicates the carving was once attached to a wall or display.
