CROW TRACKS Wood Carvings. I carved this crow with its beak open on. I have been carving in this town since 1983 and have a gallery called CROW TRACKS where I sell my work during the tourist season. Please take some time to visit my gallery when you are vacationing on the Maine coast. I carve and sell many different carvings and have a crow with a strawberry on hand most often. There are a good number of people who really like these mysterious birds. Chances are good the next one listed will not have the same look. Beak open which allows you to place cash or notes in it. A nice way to pass notes to a family member when we are on the move. The height of the carving is about 9 3/4 inches and is about 12 1/2 inches from the end of the beak to the end of the tail. It is a bit smaller than full-size and will fit well in a home or office. This piece I carved from white pine and painted with acrylics. From a distance it appears black but on close inspection one can see black, iridescent blue and purple. Instead of glass eyes I carve or paint the eyes and always try to give each of my pieces character through facial expression. The primary and secondary wing feathers and tail feathers are textured with a wood-burning pen that simulates the fine lines of feather barbs. My carvings also feature a burnt-in signature. On this piece the signature and date are burnt into the underside of the tail.
