Wonderful antique Black Forest style hand carved 14 3/8 tall solid wood sculpture, a religious figure, perhaps a cardinal, in detailed flowing costume and displayed on a carved plinth! One of a group of carved religious themed figures that we brought in from France a little while back. I’m not sure how I missed listing this one at the time but, better late than never. A fine carving, from the Black Forest region we think and it appears to be of a Cardinal figure perhaps? In any event, a lovely decorative piece! Missing his hands, I’m not sure why but it seems that the majority of these old Catholic carved sculptures lose their hands over the years. The rest of the piece in great shape though, as you can see with only a few small nips, a chip to the rear bottom left corner and original knot cracks. See images for all measurements.
