African Makonde Family Tree of Life Carved Ebony Wood Sculpture
This listing is for one “African Tree of Life”. The carved ebony wood sculpture is approximately 32 1/2″ tall and 12″ at it’s widest point. Sculpture has a 10″ x10″ x1/4 base plate to counter it’s top heaviness. This intricate work of art is more “family life” or “sense of community” oriented due to no authoritative central figure on top. The sculpture is not a recent iteration of this African traditional representation. The condition of the sculpture is very good except for one of the figures missing an arm. The arm break appeared to happen around the time of carving due to no variation to the rest of the piece(see photos). Due to the age and dry air in Colorado, there is a split in the center. The last 3 pictures show the few faults that this carving has. There is some cracking of slender body parts of figures. All in all a beautifully crafted artwork.
