Sign by Master Carver, Pita Maha Society Member Artist I. Ngendon, was next to I N. Patera the most gifted wood carver in the village of Batuan. Vintage Javanese early to mid 20th Traditional Bali Wood Carving of Vishnu Riding Garuda atop of Naga Antaboga(Anantaboga). Vishnu wielding the Sudarshana Chakra, his sacred discus which symbolizes the wheel of time but also can serves as a weapon, depending on traditions. As you can see in the photos there is no large empty boring block of wood on base, as this is a work of art from head to toe(or should I say tail). Garuda’s feet are 360 degrees carved, not just bumps on a block. Vishnu, is carved completely front sides and back, free standing from Garuda’s wings. This item is one of a kind and only one individual will become its new caretaker. Everyone else will settle for less. Carving is in above excellent condition aside from the damage to Garuda’s beak(Breaks my heart but age does take its toll).
