Stunning! 19th Century Harbor Painting Wood Carving! Vtg Orig. Art Oil Sculpture

19TH CENTURY PAINTING / SCULPTURE. Approximately 13 ” By 4 ” CIRCA 1825 – 1850. This is one of those indescribable treasures that artists have left for posterity. Here, a piece of branch has been carved and sculpted by hand and then painted. The skill level is off the charts and the level of detail captured into the smallest space is truly remarkable! With this work the artist has kept the past alive. We can see the harbor and boats as they were almost two hundred years ago – simple craft with barely more than a sail and no motors or even steam vessels in sight! The tree is sculpted in relief and the artist was able to capture whole figures in the size of the head of a pin! The work is restful to look at. One senses this work was the patient joy of the artist, and this joy and appreciation of the moment and scenery has been captured forever! Two tiny holes to the wood where the work was probably hung well over a century ago. The signature uses old English script in use in the 18th and 19th centuries and we place an approximate date of the piece to 1825. This type of work is incredibly rare, most paintings of this kind and vintage simply haven’t made it to the 21st century. A marvelous acquisition for a fine art collector to display proudly! A Glorious 19th Century Treasure!
