The head is hand-carved from a single piece of wood. It was commissioned and acquired directly from Mr. Bolton by the owner, who knew him personally and attended several of his seminars. Bolton loved carving “cowboys”, and wrote several books describing his techniques. About his Art:After his death in 2001, much of his art was re-acquired by his family, and also by several museums. This piece was retained by its purchaser, a loyal admirer of Bolton’s incredible skill as a wood carver. This is a museum-quality wood carving. Bolton, a retired Texas educator from Fort Worth, Texas, started carving in 1974. He wrote three books on caricature carving: Carving Cowboys; Carving Cowboy Faces; and, Carving Heads, Hats, and Hair. He conducted nearly 100 seminars in 20 states and was an instructor of the War Eagle, Arkansas, summer seminar for several years. Claude organized the Fort Worth Woodcarvers in 1975 and was a founding member of CCA. He was a member of the North Texas Woodcarvers, the Texas Wildfowl Carvers, and the California Carvers Guild.
