Red-Winged Blackbird Original Wood Bird Carving Lifesize Vic Sencindiver c. This original lifesize wood bird carving by Paige Victor “Vic” Sencindiver features an ultra lifelike red-winged blackbird (agelaius phoeniceus) perched on top of what appears to be a piece of walnut (or similar wood, possibly driftwood) burl knot. I can’t say enough about how detailed and intricately carved this piece is… With that said, in doing research regarding the wood carver, I assumed the artist responsible had to be someone who spent their entire life honing their craft, but that was somewhat incorrect. Based on the limited information I could find online. Paige Victor “Vic” Sencindiver. (dec’d 2011 at 84). Was a highly accomplished lifelong medical professional (surgeon) who held impressive rank in the military and helped pioneer open heart surgery in the 1950s. And from what I understand he took up the hobby of wood carving later in life, was self taught and during his life lived in Beach Haven, New Jersey & Philadelphia. Please read complete details below. Thank you and enjoy! Measures approximately 8″ x 9″ x 10 overall. The bird figure portion of the sculpture measures approximately 2.5″ x 5″ x 9. Approximate weight is 1 LB 8 OZ. Condition: In very good condition with some dust in the finely carved details and wear such as abrasions around the edges of the base. The burl has some cracking but that might be original to the piece. No breaks or repairs that I can find. Please see photos for details. Signed on the underside of the base.
