LARGE ARTISTIC CARVING COMPANY EAGLE. A Large hand carved American Eagle Plaque, by the Artistic Carving Co. Circa: First half 20th c. Length 43″ Height 16″. The “Artistic Carving Company” began in the late 1800’s in Boston and remained in business until the late 1950’s. The eagles are hand carved with great attention paid to the smallest details. And the paint and gilding are also expertly applied. The length of just over 3 1/2 feet makes this an impressive wall hanging. It is difficult to date the plaques exactly. The ones from the 1950’s usually have bright, somewhat garish, paint. This plaque has a nicely aged surface with litte wear many of these were hung inside because they were so beautiful and thus remain in excellent condition. This eagle dates from the latter period of the companies production dating it to the 50s. It would make a fine addition to a contemporary home yet still perfect at home with a collection of early American folk art. ALL SALES ARE FINAL.
