The carving is a cowboy caricature of a rugged bearded cowboy, and is hand-carved from a single piece of wood. The cowboy is wearing well-worn jeans and leather chaps, red shirt and slouched hat with the brim folded up. Please observe the detailed carvings of the eyes and face, the hands, and the back of the chaps. Claude had a great attention to detail. Was acquired directly from Mr. Bolton, by the owner, who knew him personally and attended several of his seminars. After his death in 2001, much of his art was re-acquired by his family, and also by several museums. This piece was retained by its purchaser, a loyal admirer of Bolton’s incredible skill as a wood carver. This is a museum-quality wood carving. The artists name C. Bolton, a retired Texas educator from Fort Worth, Texas, started carving in 1974. He wrote three books on caricature carving: Carving Cowboys; Carving Cowboy Faces; and, Carving Heads, Hats, and Hair. He conducted nearly 100 seminars in 20 states and was an instructor of the War Eagle, Arkansas, summer seminar for several years. Claude organized the Fort Worth Woodcarvers in 1975 and was a founding member of CCA. He was a member of the North Texas Woodcarvers, the Texas Wildfowl Carvers, and the California Carvers Guild.
