This wood carving was discovered in a Holyoke Massachusetts estate and has been looked at by several “experts”. The carving, as seen in the photos, has a hand written tag on the bottom that reads, “Dr Seuss 1963 Not For Sale”. I have showed this piece to several different experts, one being a Museum, and they said they felt it could be attributed to Ted Seuss Geisel DR. They went on to say. It was most likely created in the 1930s when Seuss experimented with a commercial business idea that never took off. He later developed the whimsical animal images and incorporated them into his childrens book illustrations. The date on the bottom of the piece is probably an exhibition date rather than a creation date, especially given the fact that it states not for sale. Seuss became famous in the early 1960s, which may be why the exhibition was organized. ” The other “expert that looked at it said he did not feel if was attributable to Ted Geisel. The carving measures 8″ X 2 1/4″. (you be the judge). Or feel free to make me a reasonable offer. The item “1930’s TED SEUSS GEISEL ORIGINAL HAND CARVED WOOD BIRD SCULPTURE DR.
