This pair of beautifully carved wooden (probably teak) temple pieces depict the Burmese mythological chimera Pyinsa Rupa lit. It is a creature made from the amalgamation of parts of five different animals. It can be made up of an elephant, bullock (ox), horse, carp and tonaya (a mythical horned animal/dragon) or alternately lion, elephant, buffalo, carp, and hamsa(Sanskrit- hamsa or hamsa = an aquatic bird of passage, such as a goose or swan). The Pyinsa Rupa serves as the logo for Myanmar Airways International. 21 inches high and 7 inches wide at widest part (measured without stands).
