WWII Paramarine Ready Room Wall Carving. Carving is in good used shape. Was carved by a Paramarine during WWII and this hung in their ready room. I was told either ready or dive room I forget which, but was the room where they prepped. Not sure of wood type. Wish he had signed it. Great one-of-a-kind WWII handmade collectible. RARE MEXICAN WOOD CARVED FOLK ART FOTO-ESCULTURA PHOTO SCULPTURE WWII AIRMAN. Available for your consideration is this hard to find photo sculpture; a 3 dimensional representation of a WWII Airman in frame with original front glass. This creation is mixed media Mexican folk art; photo sculptures were originally made beginning in the 1920’s as a rememberance. Generally, they would represent family members or civic leaders, and during the War years occasionally a US Serviceman visiting Mexico would commission one of himself. Basically, they are created by applying a photograph of the subject onto the carving and then the remainder of the bust/attire is hand painted and set into a carved frame encased between front and back side glass. This sculpture measures about 11 1/2″ tall with an 11 1/2″ x 3 base/stand. The original makers lable is intact and attached to the back. There are general signs of some light surface wear to the wood frame and base, two of the three button top dowel pins on the back and the back glass is missing, and there are a few superficial spots of debris on the photograph above the servicemans left eyebrow as seen in the pictures. Removing these tiny spots could prove problematic and result in unwanted damage to the photograph. Upon receipt the glass can be reinstalled and the top dowel may need to be firmly secured as the dowel seems a little too loose to remain firm in its original position. This extraordinary German wooden trench art piece was hand carved with a pocketknife by a German soldier while in a bunker for three months during WWII. It was carved from the butt of a broken rifle and the base was made from the cover of an ammo box. It features the skull and crossbones called the totenkopf, (dead head), by the German army. I acquired over forty years ago directly from the man who made it, who migrated to the U. Overall it measures about 5” wide x 5″ deep x 3″ tall. Please see all pictures.
