The buck scans the area as the doe grazes beside a log. 2 Whitetail Deer in a Forest. It was roughed out with a chainsaw and scroll saw, then grinders and chisels were used to carve details. I do all coloring on my carvings with fire and stains and coat with spar urethane.

Here is an original woodcarving by sculptor Ralph Trethewey. It was carved in 1991 and measures approx. 3.5″Wx5.5″Hx 3.5Deep. The head is carved from basswood and the antlers are hard maple and painted with acrylics. Trethewey has gone on to produce a number of sculptures in bronze, polymer and wood. Notice that the back has a few screw holes in it from a previous display in a shadow box. The antler boke on the deer’s left main beam just past the brow time. I glued it and pinned it and it has been secure ever since. Note closeup showing it to be practically indiscernable. Thanks for looking and tell a friend.
