ORIGINAL WOOD SPIRIT CARVING in SYCAMORE. HIS NAME IS EARLWIN. HE NEEDS A HOME. SIGNED BY MISSISSIPPI ARTIST: ADAM PLITT. This Wood Spirit was carved from a fallen SYCAMORE Tree close to the Biloxi River near Saucier, Mississippi. Before carving began, the wood was allowed to dry for several months to prevent cracks or splits from forming. Cracks hurt Wood Spirits. Once completed, a coat of boiled lindseed oil was applied. Excess oil was was allowed to penetrate for a bit and then wiped away with a dry cloth. Another coat of lindseed oil was then lightly applied. It’s okay to change his name, as he has had many names in the past and lived in many different trees. If you have any question….

All imperfections are intentional, textures etc. This Spalted sycamore wood sculpture was hand carved and was sealed for protection. This sculpture is part of my ongoing series Formations. I begin with a raw piece of wood and carve based upon the grain of the wood. I do my best to bring out the inner most of each piece of wood that I carve.
