This guy is made from Cypress and finished spray on clear finish. Wood found in the deep east Texas woods. Chainsaw carved large mouth welcome plaque sign fish. Carving is 9 1/2″ tall 31″ long 7 deep. Floor mantle or deck mount. Carved from a red oak slab. Has exterior sealer so can go inside or outside. He is looking for a new home! Add him to your decor! Would look great in a garden, on a deck rail or mantle, anywhere you want to put him! The pics you are viewing are of the actual carving. If you have time, check out my other auctions! Lots more carvings to see! Each carving is unique. I do not use a duplicator or replicator like a lot of the chainsaw artists are doing. I start from scratch. I get a log or a piece of wood and begin carving. Then I move down to a smaller saw, then the grinders and sanders. Finally I wind them up with chisels. About the wood and sealer. Mostly I use Ozark red cedar and kiln dried pine for my carvings. Both perform well and have less checking than other woods. I use Minwax Helmsman Exterior Spar Urethane for sealer. The carvings get three coats before heading your direction. Care for the carvings would be just like caring for your lawn furniture. When it starts looking dull, simply give it another coat of sealer. Very easy to maintain. I have been carving for over 20 years. I use the chainsaw as a speed tool to remove the wood and shape out the carving. Each piece is a one of a kind and unique. The paint process is applied thin so the wood grain will show through. Up for sale is a neat wood fish plaque. Carved and painted along the edges. Dates to around 1925. Has two holes from being attached to the wall. Not sure if they used this as a sign or just wall art. Found in New England. Nice surface to the board (except where the fins are broken). Just under 25 and half inches long. About 7 tall and the board is 3/4 of a inch thick. Condition: Has some breaks to the tips of the fins. The breaks along the top fins are a little older as evidienced by how the edges have oxidized some. The bottom one is a newer break with fresh looking wood. There are two holes drilled through from where it was attached to a wall at some point. Has a hanger on the back now. Some pencil marks on the wood looks like it was used for a list or something at one time plus you can see the lines where they wanted to paint it. Still looks nice overall.
