The Vikings traversed the ancient seas in their versatile longships, having both oars and sail. The longboat navigated under sail when crossing the open oceans and then was maneuvered by the oars with lighting fast speed when approaching land. William Westenhaver carved this from swamp cedar. It represents a longship with its sails and brass shields. Orange and yellow semi-circles suggest the shadow of the shields. It is set in a floating frame with canvas backing. Created in the 1960s. It is not new so it shows some use. 63″ by 22″ by 2-1/2. The listing is for the Viking longship only; the other items are for display purposes only.
