Vintage Balinese Carved Wood Sculpture Wall Panel Rama & Sita. Incredible vintage Balinese Carved tablet or wall panel portraying Rama & Sita from the Ramayana Epic Saga. This stunning hand carved fruit wood tablet portrays the lovers Rama & Sita in a tropical forest as described in the Epic Ramayana Hindu Saga. Rama & Sita the Loving husband and wife of hindu lore are the two lovers of the Ramayana Epic poem, kind of the Romeo & Juliet of Hindu literature. Sita is kidnaped by Ravana the evil king and brought to his island kingdom, Lanka. Rama & Lakshmana enlist the help of Hanuman the White Monkey General to rescue Sita from Ravana’s lair. Please take a moment to look at the workmanship in this piece, the depth of it, and the sheer quality. Even the sides are carved, the jungle vegetation at the foot, the overhead tree detail is incredible. This is a very nice-rare panel from Indonesia. Well lit, this sculptural panel will draw much attention. Currently setup to mount on the wall but these pieces could be used in a variety of ways to provide a wonderful a point of interest to any interior setting. Likely carved in Bali. Condition is very good for age with some expected minor losses. Change in color of photos are due to lighting tconditions to show depth of carving. Approximately 18″ x 12″ x 1 1/2 thick. Vintage Ornately Carved BALI Wood Sculpture 3-D Relief HINDU Gods RAMA & SITA. VINTAGE CARVED WOOD HINDU SCULPTURE PLAQUE. Stunning vintage hand carved three-dimensional sculpture wall hanging plaque measuring 17-3/4″ tall, 8″ wide and about 1-3/4 deep. Featuring the Hindu God Rama on horseback and Goddess Sita surrounded by worshipers, sculpture is heavily accented with carved florals and pierced vine and leaf trim. Bearing a sawtooth bracket back, I believe the wood is teak. Carving is beyond amazing — can’t imagine the work that went into creating the depth of the dimensional work – condition is excellent – I find no breaks, scuffing, repairs or damage. Artist & Master Carver Pak Agung Arjana has incorporated the natural shape of the frangipani root into his work. Agung is now in his 70’s and is no longer carving due to poor eyesight & sadly his son is not continuing the family tradition of wood carving. Rama is holding a bow in one hand and an arrow in the other. He has a finely detailed collar around his neck, and a very detailed belt on his waist, which can be viewed from the front and also across his back. Sinta is draped in flowing robes with her left arm held up over her head, with her hand held in a mudra. The Branch facing the couple is carved into a tree, with a bird resting on the top most branch. Beneath the tree, a Naga or Dragon is carved, flames shooting from his mouth. The scales on his body are carved, and he is wearing a intricately carved headdress on his head. An interesting work of art for your collection that displays beautifully from every angle.
