MULLANIUM multi-colored PARROT on Croquet Ball by JIM and TORI MULLAN Rare NEW never displayed 2020. This is a rare signed piece by artists Jim and Tori Mullan who were known primarily for the bird pieces – which are widely collectible. This bird is in excellent condition from the smoke free home of a major collector of their work (meaning ME??). It is heavily embellished with metal pieces and gears. Markings and unusual additions. It is one of their beautiful, masterful, wonderful works of art – truly a one of a kind. Signed on tail underside. Note: Right leg slightly moves but is secured to ball. Large Parrot, Carved on the underside as DS 81. Measures 8.5 inches H x 2 inches L x 4 Inches wide. Like folk carver of yesteryear, Dan uses only a pocket knife to make whimsical birds, eagles, parrots, cats, dogs, lions. Afterwards, Donna, his wife, helps to seal the carvings with gesso and polychrome to give them a. Colorful and age-old finish. Having been inspired by a local history course in Berks County, Pennsylvania in 1968, Dan’s first style was heavily. Influenced by native approach to coloration and carving by early Pennsylvania carvers Schimmel, Mountz, and Simmons. Oday, his style is distinctive as his own work but still gives the look and feel of an old piece. All of his carvings are marked on the underside with carved initials “DS” or “D + DS” or signed as D. An unusual, gothic-style, hanging shelf in the form of a carved wooden bird. I believe this is very old (possibly antique). Can be mounted via a screw/nail in the wall, which it hooks on to. This can be used in a hallway, for example, to place a plant pot on or decorative vase on the shelf. Approximately 37 cm length maximum. Shelf is 19 cm deep and 17 cm wide (maximum).
