19TH CENTURY PAINTING / SCULPTURE. Approximately 13 ” By 4 ” CIRCA 1825 – 1850. This is one of those indescribable treasures that artists have left for posterity. Here, a piece of branch has been carved and sculpted by hand and then painted. The skill level is off the charts and the level of detail captured into the smallest space is truly remarkable! With this work the artist has kept the past alive. We can see the harbor and boats as they were almost two hundred years ago – simple craft with barely more than a sail and no motors or even steam vessels in sight! The tree is sculpted in relief and the artist was able to capture whole figures in the size of the head of a pin! The work is restful to look at. One senses this work was the patient joy of the artist, and this joy and appreciation of the moment and scenery has been captured forever! Two tiny holes to the wood where the work was probably hung well over a century ago. The signature uses old English script in use in the 18th and 19th centuries and we place an approximate date of the piece to 1825. This type of work is incredibly rare, most paintings of this kind and vintage simply haven’t made it to the 21st century. A marvelous acquisition for a fine art collector to display proudly! A Glorious 19th Century Treasure!

EXTRAORDINARY FOLK ART CARVED “LODGE” SHELF, SYMBOLISM GALORE, ORIGINAL SURFACE, C1900. All sorts of exceptional carvings including deer/moose heads with antlers, 2 open mouthed forked tongue snakes, bird, hand, etc. The intertwined carved wood support columns, bottom plaque of outstretched tail feathers and dark red-brown finish are incredible. Measures approximately 43″ x 19″ x 7. Good overall original condition. Quite a piece of American FOLK ART. Everything guaranteed as stated.

18th century coat of arms carved from a single piece of wood. I’m not certain what kind of wood, most likely pine or fir. The carving on this has been done by a master carver. There are oak leaves, acorns a lion and birds as well as scrolls. I estimate the date this was carved at late 1700’s to early 1800’s, so the piece is about 200 years old. The wood was carved and coated with gesso then painted in a polychrome of green, blue and red with gold gilding on the edges. The paint is all original and has some wear. No over paint or touch up has been done. There are pieces of wood broken off mostly on the top and bottom. I think there were holes to mount it which broke off. On the back is a more recent (but old) addition of a heavy duty brass hanger. The patina and wear to the paint is fantastic on this piece. I have tried to trace which family had this crest. Tenax Et Fidelis is latin for persevering and faithful. The Abdy family of England uses this motto for their crest but the coat of arms is different. The abdy family traces back its baronetcy to 1641 in England. This is a rare and authentic historic piece which looks fantastic hanging over a mantle or doorway. The piece is 12″ wide by 10″ tall and 3 thick. A heavy piece It weighs approx 3.4 pounds. From a smoke and pet free home. The pictures attest to this stunning relief. All of the figures are carved in 3 dimensions. This superb work of Chinese decorative arts is a true masterpiece. The 3 dimensional carving is exquisitely detailed and made of a single piece of wood which would have required many hours of carving. Comparative analysis seems to put this in the late 1800s-early 1900s. Please do your own research. I can provide no other information than the pictures you see.
