This beautiful, carved wood, Mexican folk art piece is a hanging, naked, winged angel. A classic, colonial-style piece for your art collection. It has lovely detail in the eyes, plump carved body and painted wings. It measures 10 1/2″ tall by 9″ wide and 13 1/2 long. These pieces have an antiquing glaze that gives them vintage charm. Way down in the southern mountains of Guerrero, Mexico, up high mountain roads, are the indigenous group (Nahua) that produce these beautiful carved wood art figures and wall masks. They are generally carved by men using the Tzampamitla tree and then whimsically detailed by the women in rich jewel tones (using translucent aniline dyes or paints) with eyes that seem to come alive. These remote villages and pueblitos include Maravatio, Tlamacazapa, Ahueuepan, San Francisco Ozomatlan, and San Critobal. Hard to obtain and highly collectible. 1930’s Chinese Boxwood Carved Mother & Baby Figure. It is 7.5 inches (19 cm) tall by 3.5 inches (7.6 cm) wide. It weighs 379.8 gram. It has been repairs at the hand, back, and edge. It also has cracks, chips, flea bite chips, surface wears and scratches, missing pieces to the hand held item, and missing one inlaid eye (as seen in the photos).
