The bears are made of carved ironwood from the Southwest and the style is so minimalist and timeless, as to also fall into the Danish Modern/MCM Mid Century category of design. The grain of the wood is stunning and the substantial weight of each bear is surprising given the size, but I imagine that it’s the reason it was dubbed “Ironwood”. Midcentury Modern Wood Carving of a Draped Nude. Solid wood sculpture of a draped nude woman with bare breasts. The woman appears to be Hawaiian / Pacific Islander. She is carved in midcentury modern style, with stylized features and elongated figure. The sculpture is carved from a large grained tropical wood, but I don’t know what type. The woman measures 32″ tall on a 4″ base for a total height of 36. The base measures 7″x4.5″, which is the approximate width and depth of the statue as well. LYN is penciled on the base, but it is otherwise unsigned. Ome scuffs and scrapes here and there. Including a blemish on the chin. Which are featured in the last 3 photos. See photos for details.
