VINTAGE OTTO SVEEN HAND CARVED NORWEGIAN WOOD TROLL – MID-CENTURY FOLK ART – 6. Topdog Presents: Always Interesting Toys and Models! Otto Sveen (brother of fellow master carver Anton Sveen) was a respected traditional folk artist from the Lesja (Lesje) region of Norway, located east of Trondheim and Ålesund. The Sveen brothers were well-known for their expressive, humorous trolls carved in the classic Norwegian mountain style. This piece is a male troll, carved with a wonderfully comical expression-wide eyes, open mouth, deeply carved textured beard and clothing, and terrific character lines throughout. It shows excellent craftsmanship with strong detailing and the classic chunky, hand-tooled faceting typical of the Sveen family workshop. Artist: Otto Sveen (Norway). Material: Hand-carved and hand-painted wood. Height: Approximately 6 inches. Condition: Very good vintage condition overall; minor age wear consistent with hand-carved mid-century pieces.
