To create this lifesize Great Horned Owl, I glued 4 pieces of wood together and then carved it as one piece. It is my favorite owl I have created yet. Clint Wickman Original Wall Art. This is an original relief wood carving that I designed and carved in my studio. I carved everything by hand with power tools from kiln dried Pine wood. On this carving, most of the coloring and shading on the Great Horned Owl and tree is burned on by hand. I then followed the burning by hand painting on my own custom mixed stains to highlight and accent the piece. The back of the carving is flat for wall mounting, and I attached a heavy duty metal flush mount hanger for a nail or screw head. I also hand signed and dated on the back. After burning all of the details, the wood is sealed with shellac. I then hand paint stains, and finish with a brushed on top coat of exterior grade U. Resistant Spar Urethane with a “satin” sheen. This wood carving is however intended for indoor use. If you want to place it outdoors, I recommend brushing on a few more coats of Spar Urethane/Varnish.

Red-Winged Blackbird Original Wood Bird Carving Lifesize Vic Sencindiver c. This original lifesize wood bird carving by Paige Victor “Vic” Sencindiver features an ultra lifelike red-winged blackbird (agelaius phoeniceus) perched on top of what appears to be a piece of walnut (or similar wood, possibly driftwood) burl knot. I can’t say enough about how detailed and intricately carved this piece is… With that said, in doing research regarding the wood carver, I assumed the artist responsible had to be someone who spent their entire life honing their craft, but that was somewhat incorrect. Based on the limited information I could find online. Paige Victor “Vic” Sencindiver. (dec’d 2011 at 84). Was a highly accomplished lifelong medical professional (surgeon) who held impressive rank in the military and helped pioneer open heart surgery in the 1950s. And from what I understand he took up the hobby of wood carving later in life, was self taught and during his life lived in Beach Haven, New Jersey & Philadelphia. Please read complete details below. Condition: In very good condition with some dust in the finely carved details and wear such as abrasions around the edges of the base. The burl has some cracking but that might be original to the piece. No breaks or repairs that I can find. Please see photos for details. Signed on the underside of the base. Lifesize Balinese Dewi Sri Huge 5′-10(178 cm) Wood Carving Colorful Polychrome Finish. Height 70 inches (178 cm). Width 10 inches (25.4 cm). Depth 10 inches (25.4 cm). This is a life size hand carved serene figure of the Goddess Dewi Sri. Dewi Sri, or Shridevi (Dewi literally means goddess) (Javanese), Nyai Pohaci Sanghyang Asri (Sundanese) is the Javanese, Sudanese, and Balinese pre-Hindu and pre-Islam era goddess of rice and fertility, still widely worshipped on the islands of Bali and Java. Despite her mythology origin from the island of Java, after the adoption of Hinduism in Java as early as the first century, Dewi Sri became associated with the Hindu goddess Lakshmi they both are attributed to wealth and family prosperity. In current Balinese Hindu belief, Dewi Sri corresponds to an amalgamation of the Hindu goddesses Lakshmi, Devi, and Sri. She continues to be associated with rice, fertility, a successful harvest, and family prosperity and harmony. Worshippers make token food offerings and prayers to Dewi Sri so she may grant health and prosperity to the family. You can see the chisel marks on the back side where it has been hollowed out (probably to reduce its weight). This carving is in excellent condition, there is some finish rubbing on the face and a hairline crack at the top right of the head that is not very noticeable from the front only apparent from the back. Had originally a piece of twine to secure it but it has deteriorated over time, the previous owner added the screws to secure it from falling. There is also remnants of a label on the back which most likely said Made in Indonesia. Her left arm also has a hairline crack in the finish and also at the seam between her feet and ankle. She has a nice patina most likely dates from the 1970s, has gold leaf and a traditional paint palette. The hands are in the namaskara mudra gesture of greeting, prayer and adoration. Despite most Indonesians being observant Sunni Muslims or Balinese Hindus the indigenous underlying animist-era beliefs, notably of Sunda Wiwitan and Kejawen, remain very strong, are worshipped parallel to Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity without conflict; and are cultivated by the Royal Courts, especially of Cirebon, Ubud, Surakarta and Yogyakarta, which are also popular local and international tourist attractions. The Javanese harvest ceremony is called Sekaten or Grebeg Mulud which also corresponds to Maulid Nabi; the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
