Finely carved by hand Québécois wood sculpture. Incised by hand signature on base front reads A. Original gallery sticker on piece is from the legendary Raymond Bourgault boutique in St. Jean Port Joli in Quebec. The piece dates from prior to 1960 – Early pieces have hand carved signature while later mass produced piece are stamped. 10 1/4 inches high. Base is 3 3/4 inches wide base and 2 3/4 inches deep base. This wonderful carving represents a longtime Quebec tradition of woodcarving. These amazing carvers carve from one piece of wood. The Raymond Bourgault boutique in St. Jean Port Joli in Quebec, is “ground zero” for showcasing many of the old-timers who made these labor-of-love. The sculpted piece I’m offering by Monsieur Peltie appears to be possibly made of pine from Quebec or Atlantic Canada. It is possibly finished. The sculptor focused his artistry on the beautifully sculpted face. The nose and mouth are finely carved and lifelike. The eyes are very distinct. Thank you for shopping.
