Leroy Setziol, the most accomplished and respected wood sculptor in the Northwest has long been recognized by the art and architectural communities as an outstanding sculptor and an artist of great integrity. For more than 53 years, he carved works ranging from small figurative pieces to monumental carved reliefs and free standing sculptures. Rarely can we examine the residential art made by former minister and self-taught wood sculptor Leroy Setziol. Although he was highly praised and hired by the Northwest’s top midcentury modern architects, much of his work, laboriously carved from black walnut, teak and even everyday Douglas fir, is secured in private collectors’ homes. Leroy Setziol was also warmly referred to as the “Father of woodcarving”. This is a stunning specimen, measuring 14.25″ tall 8.5″ wide and 2 depth. It has Leroy’s signature carved into the back and includes a newspaper clipping about the artist. Leroy’s pieces have continued to appreciate over time- this is a stunning investment piece!!
