We are very pleased to present this wonderful folk art find for your consideration. This is a wood carving signed by Walter Gottshall and dated 1987. It is a whimsical turnabout of a cat in a cage and a bird on top of the cage looking very satisfied. Walter and June Gottshall were very well-known in the Pennsylvania German style of carved folk art and created many beloved pieces until they passed away–he in 2018 and she in 2021 at the age of 100. He would carve and she would paint—a perfect duo. This is a fantastic piece with no apparent damage or repair. Please enjoy the photos for the best look. It will display well. Measurements are: 17″ tall x 10″ wide including the bird’s tail. For instance, we would be reluctant to put cast iron and fine china together. Thank you for your interest.
