Exceptional vintage large wood carved sculpture of a young girl seated reading a book. This charming, meditative sculpture measures 23 high making the child near life size. It is signed and dated to base: ZIEMER 1963. Not certain what type of wood but not a soft wood. Rather, a very hard wood and very heavy at 27 pounds and sits very firmly. Very well cared for and in wonderful original condition but obviously carved when wood was still green so a crack has developed to front and a very small crack to side of head. At this age those cracks will not grow larger. The dark areas on wood surface are pitch or sap that has hardened and darkened adding another layer of interest to the finish or patina. Has the presence of a BUDDHA. Folkart and Fine art both in this mid century American hand sculpted universal young girl reading a BOOK! I do not know where this was created but most likely here in the Great Northwest. Questions always welcome and thanks for looking.
