Once the coffee trees stop fruiting the wood is harvested so new trees can be planted. The Balinese Artist gives these roots new life by creating these amazing freeform carvings. He sun face is carved by hand onto the stump and the roots are also carved to form the sun rays around the face , a black base coat is then applied and then gold leaf is is added for a gilded golden finish. There may be slight checkering of the wood on her face. This is normal and due to the nature of the wood and not considered a flaw. A unique work of fine art. We hand choose each carving directly from the Balinese artist to ensure beauty & quality. Differences in each carving are to be expected, while essentially the same each will have different expressions, root formations, coloration and wood grain and size than the representative photo provided. This is to be expected do to the handcrafted and natural origins of this unique product. Great displayed on a wall, or on a shelf, or in your garden. Does have a nylon cord for hanging on the back. This pair of beautifully carved wooden (probably teak) temple pieces depict the Burmese mythological chimera Pyinsa Rupa lit. It is a creature made from the amalgamation of parts of five different animals. It can be made up of an elephant, bullock (ox), horse, carp and tonaya (a mythical horned animal/dragon) or alternately lion, elephant, buffalo, carp, and hamsa(Sanskrit- hamsa or hamsa = an aquatic bird of passage, such as a goose or swan). The Pyinsa Rupa serves as the logo for Myanmar Airways International. 21 inches high and 7 inches wide at widest part (measured without stands).
