LUIS POTOSI ECUADOR ARTIST VINTAGE CARVING WOOD RELIEF SCULPTURE. It measures approximately 20 1/2 x 11 x 2 1/4. The details are amazing and I can just imagine how long it took to create something like this? I know it has a metal tab label in the bottom, right hand corner of the frame. It is in very good condition, and the only flaw that I can see is in the upper right hand corner. There is a crack in one of the mountains however, the piece is very sturdy and well-made. Presenting a beautiful carved wood wall panel by Ecuadorian artist Luis Potosi. Measures 36″ x 16″ x 3. The circa 1960’s carving depicts a native Ecuadorian playing a pan flute. The sculpture is artist signed with applied metal tag at the bottom right. It is in excellent as carved condition without issues. Luis was born in 1937 in San Antonio de Ibarra Imbarbura, Ecuador. He was born to humble farmers in the area and also a born artist, modeling in clay and later in stone before finding his true element, timber. He studied at the Institute of Fine Arts majoring in sculpture. He graduated in 1957 later establishing a studio-school where he trained over one hundred artists. He was an art professor at the University of Manabi Ecuador. He has exhibited in America and Europe winning many awards. Please see our other listed carving by Luis Potosi. THIS IS A WELL CARVED LATE 18TH CENTURY BAROQUE LATIN AMERICAN CARVED WOODEN MARY MARIA MATER PURISSIMA SCULPTURE FROM ECUADOR. THERE IS A SMALL PIECE MISSING ON THE BASE OF THE SCULPTURE. THE POLYCHROMING IS ORIGINAL AND HAS A GOOD AGE PATINA. THIS LOOKS MUCH BETTER IN PERSON THAN UNDER THE HARSH LIGHTS. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN USED IN A HOME ALTAR. MEASURES 6 3/4 X 3 AT THE WIDEST.
