Signed by carving artist: Caron. This is a very impressive wood chip carving. The wood is a light colored carving wood, believed to be Spanish Cedar. That is a wood that is used in tobacco humidors (I know that because I build them). Spanish Cedar is impervious to moisture and regulates moisture in humidors, FYI. It also carves really well because of the long straight grain of the wood. This piece depicts an early American woman. The carving is wonderfully done, and is in perfect condition, without chips or cracks anywhere. The photos may look a bit odd from the steep angle of the camera. I took them like that so that you could see how deep the carving is. It is in very high definition as “Graphic Relief” carvings go. The depiction is definitely of a woman in motion and on the move. Take note of the pleats in her dress, and the folds in her blouse. It is very well crafted. The piece measures approx 18″ tall, and 7″ wide. The board is about an inch thick. Up for consideration is Vintage pair of Italian Signed Palladio Carved Wooden Cherubs or Putti. They stand 14 inches and are in excellent shape with no visible repairs… They are pretty well done and most importantly their faces are nice to look at… Such that you don’t mind looking at them for extended period of time. Up for consideration is Vintage pair of Italian Signed Palladio Carved Wooden Cherubs or Putti. They stand 14 inches and are in excellent shape with no visible repairs… They are pretty well done and most importantly their faces are nice to look at… Such that you don’t mind looking at them for extended period of time. Palladio is a great Company… I would say these came from the Late 50’s. Please see the photos as part of the description. They are both tagged and Stamped Palladio.
