Black Union Cavalry Trooper. Original by Claude W. And Very Very Rare. Item B-8, Dated 4/84. Offered for sale is a unique, original wood carving by Claude Bolton. The carving is a rugged Buffalo Soldier (African American Union Cavalry), who settled the West. It is hand-carved from a single piece of wood. It was commissioned and acquired directly from Mr. Bolton by the owner, who knew him personally and attended several of his seminars. Bolton always carved “cowboys”, and did not use African Americans as the subject of his usual carvings. The owner specified that this piece be of an African American man. There are no other “African American Buffalo Soldier” pieces known to have been carved by Claude Bolton. This is believed to be the only one! After his death in 2001, much of his art was re-acquired by his family, and also by several museums. This piece was retained by its purchaser, a loyal admirer of Bolton’s incredible skill as a wood carver. This is a museum-quality wood carving. The artists name C.
