Offered here is a highly detailed hand carved wood sculpture of a Wild Boar attributed to the Oberammergau carving tradition and associated with the workshop or style of Anton Fischer of Oberammergau, one of the most famous wood-carving villages in the world. Oberammergau in the Bavarian Alps has been renowned for its wood carving for over 500 years, with the craft documented as early as the early 1500s. These pieces are prized today for their fine hand craftsmanship and traditional Black Forest carving style. This sculpture is a beautifully carved example, showing a powerful wild boar with excellent anatomical detail and expressive carving. Pieces like this were typically carved individually by hand, making each example unique. Overall length: 8 inches. Height: approximately 7.5 inches. Base measures about 7.25″ x 3″. Weight: 427.8 grams. Hand carved solid wood. German Black Forest / Oberammergau folk art style. Please read carefully and review the photos. Unfortunately this piece has had several repairs to the legs and tail. The repairs were done fairly well overall, but they are visible and should be noted. The rear right leg is slightly glued a bit out of alignment toward the bottom. I took clear photos showing these areas so you can judge for yourself. Despite the repairs, it still displays very nicely and remains a wonderful example of traditional German wood carving. Please review all photos carefully as they are part of the description.
