Late 1800’s Black Forest Hand Carved Walnut, Wood Dog Sculpture. Highly Detailed measuring approximately 8.5″L x 6 1/2″H x 3 1/2W and weighing approximately 9.8 ounces. The sculpture is beautifully carved from the fur to the definition of the foot pads, toe nails and collar, this is just a magnificent piece with brown glass eyes and aged patina. It is very reminiscent of pieces by Walter Mader, who was a great Swiss wood carver in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s, but I have no paperwork to prove that it is his piece. He carved canines, exclusively. A great addition to any collection of fine Black Forest wood carvings. Very good pre-owned condition with a few small shallow age cracks to the under belly and under the chin if you view with magnification. Part of the front left paw has also been reattached, but it is difficult to see. My husband’s father and my father brought back many lovely pieces of jewelry, porcelain, clothing, perfumes, and household items to their new brides upon their return from Europe after WWII. Many of the items have gone to family, but there are still many items that need a home, and they are listed here. There are also other items, long held family treasures that also need to find new homes, as we have no room in ours for them. Many of them have been passed on from generation to generation over 100’s of years. We hope they find a home with you. This cat Sculpture was carved with a chainsaw from a white pine log. The dimensions are roughly: 21″ tall and 8″ by 8 wide/thick. It can be kept indoors, or outdoors, but if kept outdoors it should be kept under a covered porch and out of the elements. Do not place the carving in direct sunlight as the excessive heat and harsh UV lights are very hard on wood carvings. As can be seen in the photos, the carving does have some cracks in it including a rather large one on the side of the base. Cracking is a natural and common occurrence in wood. As the carving ages some more cracking may occur. Please understand this before purchasing.

Carving Measures approximately 33 and 3/8th inches in length. This carving depicts two black bear and a raccoon in a tree. A black bear cub is looking up from the base of the tree as another sits in the top with a raccoon peering from inside. This wall hanging carving looks wonderful hanging on a wall. Photo with dollar bill is for size comparison to give you an idea of its size. It was roughed out with a chainsaw and scroll saw, then grinders and chisels were used to carve details. I do all coloring on my carvings with fire and stains and coat with spar urethane. The eyes, hair and everything I carved as realistic as I can. On the back I signed and dated and it has a recess carved out for hanging flush against the wall. Imagine this over a fireplace, in a kids room or anywhere else it could be a centerpiece of your hand carved wall-hanging collection.
