Up for consideration fine folk art carved wooden eagle in the style of John Bellamy. The piece measures about 24 by 9 inches and looks to be in good condition. It is is a bit dusty and does show some age. Looks to be 60 or 75 years of age… It has what looks like eye type hooks on the back along with twisted wire. Vintage oversized Bellamy style primitive hand carving of a very large and very heavy eagle wall hanger. This beautiful carving is in very good condition and beautiful patina. The eagle is holding in it’s talons grain or wheat and shield on his breast in lieu of feathers. The eagle appears to be carved from a single piece of walnut or other hard wood with one wing being longer than the other. The left wing appears to have a piece of wood inserted perhaps due to the wood piece selected for the carving. The back shows one piece of wood the appears to be cut with a chainsaw. The eagle measures 29″ wing span, 18 3/4″tall and 4 deep. Weighs just under 15pounds. It has very heavy duty wall hanging hook. Will be packaged very carefully. Antique Carved Wooden Patriotic Eagle Signed Joe Wye folk art. Fabulous old carved wooden eagle in wonderful preowned condition. One little ding in the shield which is either old or a carving flaw, otherwise in really nice shape pop e. Beautifully carved, nice consistent patina, just a great little piece of Americana. This unsigned eagle was hand-carved from a single block of wood in the style of the Artistic Carving Companys Louisberg model. It could very well be one of their earlier cuts as the company (based in Boston) was not apparently known for branding their carvings. The Bellamy Eagle gets its nickname from John Haley Bellamy who first popularized the image with his beautiful carvings. It traditionally faces to the viewers left and clutches three arrows and a striped shield featuring 1-3 stars. This particular Bellamy Eagle has the full trio of arrows and a shield baring 15 stripes and a single star partially covered by the eagles talons. It has a 42 wingspan and measures about 16 tall. As you can see, there are minor imperfections and flecks of paint throughout that are too small to be noticed by the naked eye except upon close inspection. Many times hanging eagle carvings like this were displayed outside the owners home, so its rare to find one that has been preserved this well!
