Rare Antique 13.75 Hand-Carved Wooden Saint Anthony Santo on Globe / Orb Base. Santo figure representing a Franciscan friar, consistent with traditional iconography of Saint Anthony of Padua. This exceptional primitive folk art sculpture is elevated by a rare, integrated tiered orb base, making it a true centerpiece for any religious antiquities collection! Rare Globe / Orb Base: The figure stands atop a beautifully carved sphere, symbolizing Christ’s global dominion and the worldwide missionary reach of the Franciscan order. This base style is highly desirable and difficult to find. This statue features the traditional hand-carved Franciscan tonsure hairstyle and a dark, cowled habit. This piece is in original, untouched antique condition. No modern repairs or glues have been applied. It shows beautiful, authentic age wear, including significant flaking of the original white gesso primer layer on the face and habit, exposing the natural wood grain beneath. The base features a prominent, deep natural structural crack running through the orb, which is completely stable and adds immense rustic character. The right hand/attribute is missing as pictured. The backside shows some pieces of wood missing that may have been attached. Please review all photos carefully to appreciate the magnificent weathered patina. To ensure this delicate piece arrives safely, it will be professionally packed using a multi-layer method. In unprinted paper to protect the flaking gesso, followed by generous bubble wrapping and secure double-boxing.
