The Wooden Dolls by Alexander Girard are a large family of wooden figures representing human and animal characters. Girard designed them in 1952 for his own use as decorative objects in his Santa Fe home. These originals, which are part of the Girard estate in the holdings of the Vitra Design Museum, served as models for the current re-editions. Precisely replicated down to the last detail, the many different Wooden Dolls are still fabricated and painted by hand today, just like the vintage pieces by Alexander Girard. And even if the differences between them are only very slight: each wooden figure is a unique, individual product, truly one of a kind.

Folk Art Haitian Carved Wood Sculpture Bust of Alexander Petion Vintage 11″ H and 7″ W x 5. Base is 4″ x 4.5″. It’s written Haiti and Alexander Petion on back. And side at bottom in gold paint. Please see all pictures for condition. It’s in good pre-owned condition with some minor issues to mention. Has a few line like marks on it one on back and one on top of head. Probably due to improper storage. It displays perfectly sits nicely. No chips or nicks that I see. Really nice patina and wood. It has some gold paint in places lightly. A few minor scratches to it from improper storage as well. Weighs 3 lbs 11 oz. Reasonable offers will be considered. Here is what Wikipedia says about Alexander below. Alexandre Sabès Pétion (French pronunciation: [al? Ks? ~ d? Sab? S petj? ~]; 2 April 1770 – 29 March 1818) was the first president of the Republic of Haiti from 1807 until his death in 1818. One of Haiti’s founding fathers, Pétion belonged to the revolutionary quartet that also includes Toussaint Louverture, Jean-Jacques Dessalines, and his later rival Henri Christophe. Regarded as an excellent artilleryman in his early adulthood, [3] Pétion would distinguish himself as an esteemed military commander with experience leading both French and Haitian troops.
