A genuine Renaissance treen lion circa 1500 AD This amazing lion is a mystery. Presenting beautifully on his own as a fine art object he was originally part of a paneled wall or perhaps even an earlier piece of furniture from the renaissance. But even more intriguing is the hidden compartment at the back of the lion. We can only guess what this compartment may have held- a treasure? Something so secret that nobody else should be allowed to see it or so precious it had to be hidden in a place that nobody else could find it…. The lion is in amazing condition for his 500 or so years of age. There are scuffs to the wood here and there and in parts it is darker than others. He does have age appropriate patina. The photos show these details quite clearly. He measures 6 1/2″ tall by 5 3/4″ wide by 2 1/8 deep approximately. This beautiful Renaissance wood carving would make a lovely treasure for display in your home. He is the perfect gift for someone with a strong connection to this amazing period of history.
