An exceptional Antique European (Bavaria) hand carved wood sculpture. Madonna and Infant Jesus. A large and impressive carving dating from Late 18th early 19th century. The emotive figure of The Virgin Mary depicted wearing flowing robes polychromed, gilded and silvered. The infant Jesus in her arms. Antique condition with appropriate signs of age commensurate with great age and use. General wear, losses and ancient restorations to surface decoration. Beautifully distressed throughout which can only be achieved over centuries of use and in my opinion only adds to the immense charm of this statue. Please study photographs as they do form part of the description. An extremely decorative statement piece. Perfect for both antique and contemporary interior designs.
